Our Appointment in Cologne, Every Two Years: We Go to ORGATEC to See What Our Customers Made of Our Part
|
Summary: ORGATEC Cologne 2026 runs 27–30 October at Koelnmesse in Cologne, Germany, and the Enjoy Caster team flies out this week. Two things to be clear about. First, we have no stand — ORGATEC is biennial, it shows finished office furniture, and the people on that stage are our customers; we go to see them. Second, the odd-year fair, interzum Cologne (11–14 May 2027), is the home ground for furniture components, and that is where we exhibit. What we most want to see on this trip is one thing: the caster we developed for a customer last year, and what it became. |
Cologne's Even Years and Odd Years H2
Koelnmesse runs a very tidy rhythm, and understanding it means understanding the timetable of the whole office furniture supply chain.
|

What is shown |
Who is on the stand |
|
Even years (e.g. 2026) |
ORGATEC Cologne |

Component and material suppliers — that is, us |
So the answer to "does Enjoy Caster have a stand at ORGATEC" is no — and that is not a regret; it is a division of labour. A caster is the part fitted underneath a finished product. Placing a single wheel on a stand at a finished-furniture fair gives no context to designers and corporate buyers who came to look at complete spatial concepts.
The fair where we do exhibit is interzum. interzum Cologne — the international trade fair for furniture production and interior design components — runs 11–14 May 2027 at Koelnmesse. Those are the four days of the cycle when parts like casters are treated as the main event. Detailed exhibition information will be announced closer to the date.
|
Worth adopting as a supplier-vetting habit: whenever a supplier claims to exhibit at a given fair, the official exhibitor directory is publicly searchable and takes about thirty seconds to check. Show participation is among the easiest claims to overstate and the easiest to verify. |
Every Two Years, We Go to See What Became of a Wheel H2
What makes ORGATEC particular for us is that it is a standing two-year appointment between us and our customers.
Developing a caster is a long conversation. A customer arrives with an idea — a slimmer base profile, a specific flooring environment, or simply a colour nobody has made before. Then come specification exchanges, sampling, tool modification, testing, more tool modification. The process routinely spans the better part of a year, and our share of it is the seventy-five millimetres underneath the chair.
Then the conversation goes quiet. The customer moves into their own product development, and we go back to the production line. The next time we meet is often two years later at ORGATEC — where that wheel is now fitted to a complete chair, with its seat, armrests, backrest and brand mark, standing under the lights being photographed by the design press.
That is the real reason we fly to Cologne every two years. Not to collect catalogues, but to stand in front of a customer's exhibit and see our small part placed inside a finished piece of work.
What We Are Looking For on the Show Floor H2
Visiting is not wandering. We arrive with a few clearly defined questions, and the answers feed directly into the next development cycle.
|
Focus |
What we are looking at |
Effect on product |
|
Our customers' finished products |
How the caster we co-developed last year actually reads on the finished piece — proportion, visual effect, overall coherence |
Feeds back into finish treatment, colour pairing and dimensional judgement for the next round |
|
Customers' new ranges and design direction |
What they are launching, where the formal language is heading, whether base proportions and materials are shifting |
Determines which wheel diameters, swivel offsets and finishes we develop next |
|
Flooring and use context in the halls |
The floor materials actually laid across the show and the wheel types paired with the chairs on display |
Informs our hardness-range and tread-compound recommendation logic |
|
How sustainability and compliance are narrated |
How brands communicate recycled content, design for disassembly, and lifespan claims |
Shapes how far our PCR documentation and warranty terms need to be prepared |
The first row is homework few component suppliers do. Passing on a specification sheet does not mean the part is the best answer once it sits inside the whole design. Only standing in front of the finished product tells you whether a half-millimetre judgement made a year ago was right.
We Make a Small Part — Which Is Exactly Why It Has to Be Perfect H2
An office chair contains dozens of components, and the caster's share of the cost is low enough that it often sits in the "other" line of a cost breakdown.
But a user's first impression of a chair usually comes from the second they push it. Whether it rolls smoothly, whether it makes a noise, whether it snags, whether it leaves a black mark on the client's timber floor — none of this appears on a datasheet, and all of it shapes how the end user judges the entire chair.
That is why we think of ourselves as part of our customers' products rather than as a parts vendor. Our scope is narrow, and precisely because it is narrow, there is no excuse for doing it less than well. Our patented One-Time Injection process moulds polyurethane directly over the nylon core in a single operation, so the structure contains no bond line and therefore no origin point for delamination. That is the best answer we can give within our narrow scope, and it is the basis for the 5-year warranty carried across the range, custom colours included.
Manufacturing is only half of it. The other half is leaving the factory: seeing our customers' exhibits, sitting down in their offices, understanding who their product is being sold to. Without that half, we could only ever build to drawing — never help lift a customer's product a level higher.
If You Will Be in Cologne H2
We have no stand, but we do have time — and no stand actually makes for a better conversation: no passers-by interrupting, no five-minute window.
Any day from 27 to 30 October can be arranged. Three things travel in our hand luggage:
- Sectioned comparison samples: one one-time-injection caster and one conventionally bonded caster, both cut open. Ten seconds is enough to see whether a bond line exists — that line is where delamination begins.
- A physical colour card set: the achievable custom colour gamut, stocked colours and the realistic batch variation range, comparable directly against your upholstery or coating references.
- The full certification pack: SGS, BIFMA test methodology basis, RoHS, REACH and PCR, available to read and photograph on the spot.
If you have a failed wheel, bring that too. A failure sample explains more than any datasheet — abrasion, delamination and hydrolysis all look like "the wheel broke," but their causes and remedies are entirely different. Misdiagnose one and you change the wrong supplier, then fail again a year later.

Frequently Asked Questions H2
Q1: Does Enjoy Caster have a stand at ORGATEC Cologne 2026? H3
No. ORGATEC is a finished office furniture fair, and its exhibitors are furniture brands and manufacturers — many of whom are our customers. We attend as visitors, to call on those customers and observe design direction, without a stand. The team is in Cologne from 27 to 30 October, and meetings can be booked in advance.
Q2: Does ORGATEC run every year? H3
No. ORGATEC Cologne is biennial and takes place in even years. The 2026 edition runs 27–30 October and the next is in 2028. In odd years, the corresponding Cologne fair is interzum.
Q3: Which fair does Enjoy Caster exhibit at? H3
interzum Cologne, the international trade fair for furniture production and interior design components, 11–14 May 2027 at Koelnmesse. interzum is dedicated to furniture production and supplier industries — materials, hardware, components and production equipment — and is the benchmark fair for furniture components. Detailed exhibition information will be announced closer to the date. In Taiwan, we exhibit at the Taiwan International Hardware & Tools Expo (TiTE x IHT, 20–22 October 2026, Taichung International Convention and Exhibition Center), stand F533.
Q4: How does interzum differ from ORGATEC? H3
Different positioning. ORGATEC centres on finished furniture for office and contract interiors, and its visitors are designers, space planners, dealers and corporate buyers. interzum serves furniture production and supplier industries, and its visitors are the purchasing and development teams of furniture manufacturers. For component sourcing, interzum is the more relevant of the two.
Q5: Without a stand, how do I see samples? H3
Two ways. Arrange a meeting in Cologne and we will bring sectioned samples, colour cards and documentation to the agreed location. Or do not wait for a fair at all — send us your specification and we will ship matched samples for testing in your own laboratory. Measured data beats a visual judgement on a show floor every time.
Q6: Can I bring a failed wheel for you to look at? H3
Very much so — it is the most productive kind of meeting we have. Please keep it in its original condition (do not clean or trim it) and bring three pieces of context: the operating environment, roughly how long it was in service, and the floor material. With those three, a first read on the failure mode is considerably more reliable.
Conclusion & Next Step: No Stand, But There Every Two Years H3
The value of a trade fair was never confined to the stand. For a component supplier, seeing what a customer made of your part matters more than being seen by passers-by at a finished-goods show. That is why we fly to Cologne every two years — and in May 2027, at interzum, we will meet you from the other side of the stand.
- Meet us in Cologne: we are at ORGATEC 27–30 October as visitors, not exhibitors. Meetings are by prior appointment.
- Request a sectioned sample: ten seconds to confirm whether a bond line exists — the fastest delamination risk assessment available.
- Request test samples: send your application, load and floor material, and we will match specifications and ship.
- Request the full document pack: SGS, BIFMA test methodology basis, RoHS, REACH and PCR in one delivery.
